Wearing Sandals Again? No Problem

Summer in Southern California means serious heat! In the midst of a heat wave, we just got a call from this client who has been wearing his prosthetic toe for a couple of months. He told us he is so grateful that his prosthesis allows him wear sandals on hot days without feeling self-conscious at all. We are always so happy to hear from our clients and to know that our work helps people regain normalcy and peace in their daily lives.

No Nail? No Problem

This client lost her left great toenail as a child resulting in a shortened toe that made her feel self conscious in some shoes. She also had nerve discomfort when the scar was touched. Usually we make our prosthetic nails out of acrylic, which allows the nails to be painted. In this case, there was not enough space for an acrylic nail to be deeply embedded. The nail on the prosthesis pictured is soft and completely made of silicone, yet durable. Her prosthesis acts as a compliant, protective sleeve to soothe the nerve irritation, restore form and length, and give her confidence to wear shoes she likes without worrying about her amputation.

NFLPA Care Foundation Shares

After a sudden, life threatening illness, former NFL player of the Seattle Seahawks, and President of the NFLPA Northern California Chapter Douglas Hollie, not only spent four months in a coma but also lost the front of both of his feet.

Thanks to the NFL Players Association Care Foundation, he was able to have two custom prosthetic partial feet created. After a career as an athlete, he has endured many surgeries and much physical pain, however, he cites that having to cope with the loss of his feet has been his greatest hardship. He’s excited to go to church in his dress shoes, go out dancing and be able to tap his feet to the beat of music again.

The NFL Players Association Care Foundation helps many former NFL players and their families by providing programs and assistance with medical, emotional, financial, social and community issues. He hopes that by sharing his story, other former NFL players facing hard times can take advantage of this program. Vacation Ready
